Dr. Fernando Álvarez López is a Paediatric Surgeon from Colombia with a PhD in e-Learning (Cum Laude) from the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC). SMISGEST-VR is his PhD dissertation project titled "Use of Gesture-Mediated VR Simulation for Training Basic Psychomotor Skills in Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS)".
We currently have a good-enough prototype with which we have submitted to a seedbed programme called "EduTech Emprèn: Entrepreneurship in e-learning". We continue working on the project to scale the product up and commercialize it soon.

SIMISGEST-VR is a portable low-cost VR simulator for learning basic psychomotor skills in Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) which uses gesture interface device (LMC) to interact with 3D virtual environments. The trainee can access at any time and any where (ubiquitous learning) democratizing the learning opportunities outside the OR. It also uses a validated quantitative metrics which assess the trainee’s learning curve.
